House rules work when guests understand them before booking and can find them easily on arrival. They support the guest experience, protect the home and help maintain good relations with neighbours, especially in apartment buildings and busy destinations.
Write specific, reasonable rules
State check-in and checkout times, maximum occupancy, pet and smoking rules, quiet hours, parking and access to shared spaces. Explain how to use a terrace, barbecue or heater if present. Avoid a long list of bans without practical instructions.
Communicate at the right moment
Key rules belong in the listing before a guest books. Pre-arrival messages include the correct address, access, parking and an issue contact. Keep a short guide in the property, in Romanian and English for international guests. Airbnb notes that listing house rules set expectations and appear during the booking journey.
When a problem occurs
Respond calmly and record what happened, when and what action was taken. An emergency contact for neighbours and a responsive manager can limit escalation. Rules cannot prevent every incident; combine accurate descriptions, guest registration, in-stay support and post-checkout checks.
